A pitch perfect combination of history and modern design awaits you at Das Triest which opened in 1995. Back in the days Das Triest used to be a staging post on the horse-drawn mail couch route between Vienna and Trieste. Austrian architect Peter Lorenz and British interior designer Sir Terence Conran joined forces to preserve parts of the original structure combining elements of imperial elegance with sober lines. Subtle nautical touches like old ship railings and flags feature throughout the hotel, evoking an indirect homage to the port city of Trieste. The 71 amply-appointed rooms and suites feature porthole mirrors and windows and specially commissioned photographs of Trieste and Vienna further celebrate a connection to the building’s historic role in international travel. This singular retreat has been expanded with an additional 49 rooms and suites designed by Wehdorn Architects, whose work stands autonomously beside that of Conran’s, producing an interesting and creative design dialogue.
