No Special Treatment
If you're looking for special treatment in South Beach, choose the Winter Haven Autograph Collection. The Marriott Stanton has closed it's concierge lounge and offers no differentiated service for top Elites. Granted, I was there on Thanksgiving weekend, but greasy tater tots for breakfast and lots of kids wasn't what I had in mind. Tried using the bikes twice, but they weren't available (keep in mind there is a $30/day resort fee for this). Things have changed since my last visit. Disappointed, but other more exclusive properties are available.

Clean, relaxing, and peaceful.
Excellent hotel, clean, well appointed, and great staff. The only room for improvement would be to extend the pool area hours ( closed dusk to dawn and we enjoy late soaks in the hot tub) and adding an ‘market’ for sundries and snacks. The local bodega closed early, so late night needs meant walking several blocks to the nearest Walgreens. My family visited the Starbuck’s several times and were disappointed with every order. They were unhappy every time but still went daily. Some of us are fans of Cuban coffee and visited the bodega daily for it, never less than perfect for us, I recommend them highly also. These are really minor ‘problems’ and I look forward to my next stay there!

Spend your money somewhere else!
Had a horrible experience with check in. I escalated the issue with the property manager and Marriott complaints nothing changed. Still waiting on the promised call by a “General Manager”.

Check In Scam
Room was fine, facility acceptable (though a full-service restaurant other than Mexican food would be nice). Second year in a row we had a problem checking in. Arrived at 9:30 PM and clerk rattled off our reservation as if we booked a city view room, though we booked ocean view. Were told the city view room was available now, no ocean view rooms were ready. We asked how long to get one ready and told could be an hour, why not just check into the city view room. She tried a third time to convince us to take the city view and they could move us the next day. No offer to reduce our rate or offer any compensation for not having our selected room type available. We said we would wait and went to an inadequate dinner at the Mexican restaurant on site. Less than 10 minutes later we were called and said room was available. Truly felt like there was a hidden agenda as she clearly was pushing us to take a city view room when clearly an ocean view was available. Claimed they were still cleaning rooms from late check outs. Seemed suspicious. Not sure the motivation, but if we were not paying attention, would have ended up with the wrong room type at a higher rate. Have not had this issue with Marriott before, maybe just this clerk or just this location?

Pre-Cruise Stay
Nice hotel on the beach and away from the busy area of Ocean Drive. Hotel rooms are very clean and updated. The pitfall of this hotel is the attached Mexican diner, Lolo's Surf Cantina. Two bad experiences with the first one being customer service. Went in for "Happy Hour" where all bar stools were filled however stood behind waiting patiently for service and after a full 10 mins of a bartender not even acknowledging me, I left. Then my wife and I went there for dinner which included their recommended fajitas. We shared a chicken and steak fajitas entrees along with a beer each and then have a bill of $90!! Wasn't worth the money and felt as if we were a tourist scammed. Do not recommend this restaurant and do not consider it up to Marriott standards of service.
