Known as the place to meet in Salzburg’s center, Restaurant Herzl is the local year-round favorite that, during festival time, is the go-to après performance stop. Evidence of its historic prestige lies in the photos of musicians, which line the walls. Leonard Bernstein, Herbert von Karajan, Helmut Luhner, and actor Curt Jurgens are among them.

In 1767, the restaurant was a goldsmith shop. Today, guests enter from Karajanplatz into a folkloristic, creative atmosphere evocative of eras past. Waitresses wear dirndls to emphasize the traditional Austrian ambience. At the rustic refectory table the architect Clemens Holzmeister was chosen to design the Festival Hall and Herbert von Karajan laid the foundation for the Salzburg Easter Festival.

Dark wood tables and chairs populate the rooms while golden light from scattered lamps cast romance. Fine table linens serve as a simple background for authentic Salzburg cuisine. Very contemporary though is its interpretation of classic dishes: Austrian, innovative, lighter and healthier. Regional and fresh products are part of our philosophy: that's why we solely cook with products coming from our local partners and suppliers and are freshly delivered every day.

The new Herzl garden seems to be like an oasis in the heart of Salzburg and invites for a delicious lunch, coffee and cake or to enjoy a mild summer evening.
