The Westin Riverfront is thrilled to have ongoing partnerships with three top Colorado professional athletes – alpine ski racer Mikaela Shiffrin, triathlete Josiah Middaugh and skier & filmmaker Chris Anthony.

Mikaela Shiffrin - Resident Olympic Gold Medalist

Born and raised in the Vail Valley, U.S. Ski Team member Mikaela Shiffrin is the reigning three-time Overall World Cup champion and the four-time reigning World Champion in slalom. Shiffrin won her first Olympic gold medal in Sochi, Russia in 2014, making her the youngest slalom champion in Olympic alpine skiing history. At the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics, Shiffrin won both a gold medal in giant slalom and a silver medal in the super combined.

Shiffrin trains regularly at The Westin Riverfront’s Athletic Club. She also holds exclusive events at the resort where she shares her racing experiences and training tips with guests and local fans.

Josiah Middaugh – Resident World Champion

Josiah Middaugh is well known throughout the Vail Valley as an elite level, multi-disciplined athlete. Middaugh is a 13-time XTERRA USA World Champion, the 2015 XTERRA World Champion and a 6-time USSSA National Snowshoe Champion. Middaugh coaches the Athletic Club at The Westin’s Masters Swim program, as well as athletes of all levels and aspirations through his Middaugh Coaching.

Chris Anthony – Resident Mountain Historian

A Colorado native and longtime Vail Valley resident, Chris Anthony spent 27 years as a member of the Warren Miller film team as both a professional skier and host of the nationally-acclaimed film tour.  A member of the Colorado Snowsports Hall of Fame, Anthony also directed the documentary “Climb to Glory: Legacy of the 10th Mountain Ski Troopers.” He is dedicated to preserving the history of the 10th Mountain Division, who transformed the U.S. ski industry after a historic campaign in Italy during World War II.
