You can also swim and sunbathe on the city's pebbly beaches, or even climb the stairs to the Parc du Château for even more breath-taking views over the city. Culture vultures will find plenty to admire in the city's excellent museums and galleries, many of which are free to visit. Highlights include the museums devoted to Matisse and Chagall, both of whom lived in the area, as well as the impressive Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (MAMAC). You can also visit the extravagant Palais Masséna and Palais Lascaris to get a sense of how the local aristocracy once lived – both are now museums full of beautiful artefacts and artwork.
After you've had your full of cultural treasures, unwind by browsing the colourful fruit and flower stalls in the bustling open-air market on the Cours Saleya. Be sure to indulge in some local cuisine, freshly prepared from the area's flavoursome produce, then plan to take in some of the vibrant nightlife for which the French Riviera is famed.
