Dubai is the second largest emirate next to UAE’s capital, Abu Dhabi. Located on the southeast coast of the Arabian Gulf, it has recently captured the globe’s attention, particularly in the business world. From inventive construction projects, conferences and other types of corporate events, Dubai has emerged as somewhat of a hub for business and innovation. Aside from this, Dubai boasts stunning beaches and exciting waterparks, which are enhanced by the constantly warm climate. If the sunshine ever happens to get too much, you can find sanctuary in more than 70 glittering shopping centres. Head to Downtown Dubai to visit the world’s largest shopping centre – the Dubai Mall.
For a taste of local life, you can visit the traditional gold, spice and textile souk districts located on either side of the stream. There are several landmarks to visit too, including the Dubai Creek, Festival City, and the Al Bastakiya historic district. Explore the Dubai Marina for a striking skyline and a great selection of restaurants.
If you decide to delve deeper into Dubai’s now-famous skyline, there are some buildings in particular that are of interest. The World Trade Centre is worth a visit, and the Burj Khalifa is both the world's tallest building, and the world’s tallest freestanding structure. It has many other claims to fame, including accommodating the world’s second highest swimming pool, on the 76th floor.
The manmade island of Palm Jumeirah, one of the Palm Islands (the other two are still in development) has been dubbed the eighth wonder of the world by the city. The World Islands – an artificial archipelago that forms a miniature world map – are a sight to behold.
