Hop the Tube or rent a bike near your hotel to explore Cardiff (Caerdydd), the Welsh capital. Once a crucial location during the wars between the Normans and Welsh, Cardiff is home to the world’s greatest concentration of castles. Begin your journey at the Cardiff Castle and see portions of the original Roman Fort after which Cardiff was named (Caerdydd means “fort on the Taff”). For a more well-rounded approach to history, tour the Cardiff Museum. Take a trip outside city limits to explore more castles including Barry Castle and Caerphilly Castle, built in the late 13th century.
