Charles Dickens was the second of seven children and his birthplace is now an interesting museum. It is open between April and October and also opens every year on Charles' birthday. Charles lived with his family in two other houses, but both were destroyed in the World War. After moving from the area, he did not see Portsmouth again until he was nearly thirty, whilst researching for Nicholas Nickleby.
