Hotels in Edinburgh
The capital of Scotland is regularly voted Britain’s most beautiful city, and our Edinburgh hotels are the perfect base from which to admire the grandeur. Beyond the visual beauty, Scotland is a lively escape and aptly named “the Festival City” for it’s near-constant offerings of comedy, theater and arts celebrations.
Set yourself in the heart of local history by choosing a hotel near the Edinburgh Old Town, where the castle – once the seat of the Scottish monarchy – dominates the landscape atop a curtain of cliffs. From here the Royal Mile, lined with shops selling tartan and shortbread, leads down to the Palace of Holyroodhouse, former home of Mary Queen of Scots and still the official Scottish residence of the British monarchy.
Charlotte Square is the best place to get a feel for New Town, laid out in an elegant grid in the 18th century, while Calton Hill offers splendid views of the city centre below. For a quirky detour, visit the statue of Greyfriar’s Bobby, a dog who famously pined on his master’s grave until he himself passed away.
Leith, once the run-down dockland area of the city, has been impressively regenerated: Today the docks are known from their excellent seafood restaurants and some of the finest hotels in Edinburgh.
