We are committed to providing an environment where our associates have the opportunity to achieve their potential, are highly engaged and are empowered to deliver exceptional guest service. We demonstrate our purpose, values and principles of responsible business through policies on employment, human rights, environment, supply chain, and in the conduct we uphold and expect of others.
At Marriott, we support and respect the protection of human rights within the company’s sphere of influence and strive to conduct our business operations accordingly. This includes standing against such tragedies as human trafficking and the exploitation of children. We publish our human rights policy and provide training on human rights, including the protection of children, for all associates worldwide.
Ethical and Legal Standards
Our business ethics training program reinforces the importance of corporate values and ethical responsibility to the continued success of the travel and tourism industry. Our Business Conduct Guide advises our managers and associates on laws relating to antitrust, unfair competition, political contributions, abuse of purchasing power, commercial and political bribery, and more.

Our sustainability strategy supports business growth and reaches beyond the doors of our hotels to preserve and protect our planet’s natural resources. Marriott’s environmental goals are to:
Reducing our consumption
We were the first major hotel chain to calculate our carbon footprint and launch a plan to improve energy efficiency, conserve water and support projects that reduce deforestation. Database and monitoring systems help us track consumption and monitor progress against goals.
Collaborating with Suppliers
We have teamed-up with our vendors to provide price-neutral products that conserve energy, reduce and divert waste and are comprised of more sustainable materials. Low-energy light bulbs, showerheads that use less water, “room-ready” towels, recycled key cards and pens, and biodegradable laundry bags are just some of the products that help our hotels meet our sustainability goals.
Supporting conservation globally
Marriott has contributed more than $2 million to the Amazonas Sustainable Foundation (FAS) and raised nearly $300,000 through our partners, guests and associates to protect 1.4 million acres of rainforest in Brazil.
A collaboration between Marriott and Conservation International, Nobility of Nature protects the headwaters of Asia’s Water Tower and assists rural Chinese communities with building sustainable businesses that put less stress on the environment.
We are committed to investing in the communities where we do business through our “Spirit To SERVE Our Communities®” social responsibility and community engagement initiatives. Our properties worldwide are focused on five areas of giving: Shelter and Food, Environment, Ready for Jobs, Vitality of Children and Empowering Diversity.
Shelter and Food
Our hotels are a “home away from home” for our guests. As a natural extension, we are committed to alleviating poverty, feeding the hungry, and creating places of refuge for people in times of disaster. We make corporate contribution, fundraise and make in-kind donations to help victims of disasters through organizations such as the American Red Cross and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
Ready for Jobs
As a global industry leader, we are committed to training and educating the next generation. We create opportunities through programs that provide work experience and life stills to youth, and provide on-the-job training in our hotels. Through our global World of Opportunity initiative, our hotels help young people from disadvantaged backgrounds by providing employment skills training and vocational opportunities.
Vitality of Children
As we expand globally, we are committed to addressing poverty, the greatest threat to children’s health and wellbeing. We also help children and families facing medical challenges through volunteerism and fundraising. Our associates have raised nearly $90 million over 30 years for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals to deliver healthcare for children through Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) in North America. We help provide family-based care for children and orphans through SOS Children’s Villages in Europe, the Middle East and Asia.
